Three years ago I made a commitment to myself to take control of my life and make a plan for myself. You see, it’s like anything really – if we don’t know where we want to go, how can we get there? If we don’t have a direction or a route in mind and just drive around each day, how do we make progress?
Genesis 1:26 says – “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Notice in verse 26, God refers to Himself in the plural, “Let US make mankind in OUR image, in OUR likeness…”
Genesis 1:27 says – “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Notice in version 27, God refers to Himself in the singular, “So God created mankind in HIS own image, in the image of God HE created them”.
Well, I point this out simply to say that while I was thinking about my plan (my “Man Plan” as my wife and good friends call it) and how to approach it, I considered our make up. As God has three parts (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) but is yet one, we have three essences, but are yet one.
We are “Body” – the physical form that we take. But we are also “Mind” or “Soul” – this is what makes me, me and what makes you, you. It is our person. Lastly, we as believers have a regenerated spiritual dimension or a reborn “Spirit”. So, we need to address these three components.
Here are some key points to consider when you write your plan. Click on the images to make them larger so you can see my ideas on how to break this down. Over the next weeks, I will add some more details about my plan here – so you can get an idea of what one man did.
Of course, everyone’s plan is different. I would suggest that you pick one area from each of the three ‘parts’ and focus on some simple adjustments. Sometimes I have found that making changes is pretty easy and some things I struggle with for a long time.
Let me leave you with this thought. If you don’t make a plan, life will over take you. Life will force you in to a reaction mode. Over time, you will be hypnotized – waking up each day, doing the things that get you through the day – thinking you are living. But, are you? Are you where you want to be? More to follow soon…
